Thursday 8 and Sunday 11 October - Out of competition screening of documentaries made by Marina Razbezhkina and Mikhail Ugarov School of Documentary Film and Theatre (Russia)

The Marina Razbezhkina and Mikhail Ugarov School of Documentary Film and Theatre is an auteur Russian film school founded in 2009 by film director and producer Marina Razbezhkina. The school focuses on how to consciously see the surrounding reality, rather than simply notice it. During 14 months of study, each student completes two documentaries, many of which have gone on to gain recognition at top festivals around the world. In 2020, Marina Razbezhkina is officially invited as member committee at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Camp on the Wind's Road (Russia, 2018) directed by Nataliya Kharlamova - Running Time 60 minutes

Following the death of her father, Belekmaa (25) lodges herself in his sheepherdsman’s encampment. She is living through the first grave bereavement in her life and she hopes to see her father at least in her dreams, up to the day when, according to the Tuvan tradition, the spirit of the deceased would be fed and given ultimate send-off.

Engineer Fedorovich  (Russia, 2018) directed by Elena Murganova - Running Time 20 minutes

 This film about my grandmother, who is 96 years old. She dreamed of becoming a ballerina, but became an engineer. I made this film because I wanted to understand a little bit who she really is, but understood who am I.

My Love (Russia, 2018) directed by Zaka Abdrakhmanova - Running Time 41 minutes

True Kazakh girls don’t marry Russians. This is what grandma Zeinegul believes in. But her beloved granddaughter disobeyed her will. Many years later the girl comes back to Kazakhstan. Her mother drinks, her grandma prays, her father got married again, but she wants to take a picture of her whole family, just like the one they took years ago when she was a child. The picture of the family she loves and hates so much.
